Begum has had the admirably humane decision of the Court of Appeal overturned by the Supreme Court (ffs sake can we please stop fawning over America and stop copying them? It's like a fucking Cargo Cult). She will not be allowed to return to the UK to plead her case to have her citizenship reinstated in person.
A unanimous verdict. How morally bankrupt is a country that won't even allow a young woman to plead her case that leaving the UK aged 15 should not be an enforced one way trip to statelessness and a lifetime in a prison camp without trial?
Perhaps, if she'd had a change of heart whilst things were still going well for ISIS she may have a bit more credibility.
But her change of heart seemed to occur when it was all going bad. How convenient.
You make it sound like joining ISIS was like she'd drunk a bottle of White Lightning, smoked a joint, and fucked some scrofulous chav on the park swings. Like other 15 year olds.
She hasn't been refused access to plead her case because she left the UK (nice attempt at reductio ad absurdum there), she was refused because she left to join a bunch of murderous fanatics who she aided, who were sworn enemies of the UK, and who she defended when it came to committing appalling atrocities.
Bollocks to her. She threw her lot in with a band of death cultists, and did it willingly and in full realisation of the cruelty they were capable of. She turned her back on the UK and now we're accepting her choice - she can fuck off. She has no recourse to British justice because she is not British.
