Captain Marv...I mean SHAZAM

Anyone looking forward to this?
There seems to be a bit of mood whiplash between the gritty and ominous real world part and the (very cool looking) meeting wizard Shazam scene, and the broad comedy of the latter bit where the kid becomes Captain Marvel (No I'm not going to call him Shazam, that's just wrong).
Also the guy who plays the big red cheese seems a bit miscast IMHO.
And the wisdom of Solomon seems conspicuous by it's absence.
I'm a bit worried about this being a shit superhero send up to be honest, but lets hope they play it at least a bit straighter than this ad makes it appear, good villains would go a long way in that regard.
Also I'm not sure the glowing lightning bolt on his chest really works. Tacky.
This could be a chance for some cool, old school, good versus evil superhero goodness or a complete farce. Lets keep our fingers crossed for the former.

Could be fun either way. Maybe he'll be as totally badass as the original:

I was trying to order that from my DVD store the other day, spent about five minutes trying to explain what a serial was. :(

And I don't know why that youtube poster calls him sadistic. I'd like to see an honest to god oldtimey vicious pulp style avenger hero for a change, but that certainly isn't what I'm seeing in that clip.
It just goes to show how much of a self parody superheroes have become if that is seen as sadistic.

Everything's relative; he was pretty over the top at the time. Not so much these days, maybe.

They were usually known as "Chapter Plays" then, if it helps. But the whole thing's on youtube, anyway, along with many others.

I saw this on TWW:

Some nifty effects.

Quite impressive that flying, I'm surprised they didn't speed it up like they seemed to do a lot in fight and chase scenes in the old days. I suppose they wanted to show off their work.
