Game of Thrones

hmm well from little I have seen it only bears a very vague relationship to the reality. The Bad Queen lady is nothing like Margaret in any shape or form, the fat king who karks it in ep 1 is a lot like Edward iv but his son is the polar oppostite of Henry vi, so it's a mistake to get hung up on how close the connections are. The only valid Richard iii I have seen is the dwarf, and he is a likeable wee fellow with a disability, which ties in well with the modern tendency to see richard as misunderstood.

My reason for Deneris as the Henry vii candidate are;
-from deposed royal family.
-Odd-looking, not-quite human family - ie welsh :D .
-Dragons.

It's all a bit foolish to speculate anyway as the odds are the author will drop dead before we ever reach 'Bosworth' anyway.

Foolish but fun.

Also worth bearing in mind that Martin also apparently drew on the Twelve Ceasars for his background so we could be looking for Claudius and Serjaenus. :D

Lord really?

Well that almost makes more sense

Augustus ? No one springs to mind
Tiberius - that northern lad on the island who goes out with the bird with the excellent tits from 'black book' acts just like he is chanelling Tiberius from 'I Clavdivs'
Caligula - the little blond who got killed at the Sigur Ros concert
Clavdivs - hmmm the disabled dwarf again.
Nero - also that little blond
Galba - insert random dead rebel
Otho - insert random dead rebel
Vitelius - insert random dead rebel
Vespasian - not seen anyone sensible enough
Titus - nope
Domitian - nope
Nerva - too bland*

But Cersi is far more Livia with slices of Messalina and a nice admixture of Agripina and Agrippinilla than she is Margaret of Anjou, who was just pig-headedly insecure.

I find it interesting that the dwarf is Claudius, as he is of course the hero of I Clavdivs which is 'The 12 Caesars' as Faction.

Some good calls there. If I may add:

Augustus - Robert Baretheon ( the fat King who karks it in episode 1) basically gives up the throne for girls and booze, didn't Augustus give up the empire for actors and wine?

Nero - the mad git who tortures the cowardly, lying, cockless little git?

Vespasian - I've got some hopes of Jamie Lannister for this role, the public schoolboy rugger bugger is slowly beginning to understand what not to do as King. Mind you, he'd also fit Titus quite well. The other 3 emperors (69 AD was quite a year wasn't it) are clearly the Stark family.

Spot on with Cerci, definitely a L..L..Livia.

Augustus? No, he was the opposite, dutiful and dull in most ways, he died of old age after running the place for 50+ years (or was murdered by Livia if you trust Suetonius, which I tend not to) and if Jamie is the lad shagging his sister, it's a poor match as Vespasian was dull to a T, which is really why they liked him. And Titus was just a 'muscular Christian, keeps his nose clean, does what is expected of him, good Officer Material, shame about all those Jews but dammit all we have to spread civilisation to the world doncha know, pass the Gatling Gun' English Public schoolboy type. I bet he smelled of Ralgex and Sweat and wore shorts off duty.

You realise I am going to have to watch the stupid show now so I can play this properly? How many episodes are there?

Edit - BANG, just hit me.

Livia stopped Claudius Marrying the sweet poor girl he first went out with. He then shacked up with a sweet-natured, good-hearted Prostitute. That Episode I saw. Does she get killed in the end for reasosn of Power-Politics and betrayal? If so, the Dwarf is Claudius AND richard iii so a sure score for the Henry vii job.

Oh and Claudius got on brilliantly with his shady brother. Exiled for Incestuous Rape IIRC.

It was Tiberius who gave up the empire for wine and actors, damn, my pretensions to knowing Roman history are cruelly exposed :(

But I'm sure Titus had some sexual scandal associated with him?

You certainly need to watch the last episode of Season 4 to see how close you are.

My work here is done :)

Titus was boning a Jewish Princess, whose name escapes me. That's about all I remember about him. Berenice? hardly a scandal compared to Tiberius' alleged* fondness for having children hang about in his pool in case he fancied a swim.

I tried reading a plot summary of the episode you mention, god it's convoluted back-and-forth stuff. Maybe I will just watch I claudius again. That is a proper show.

*suetonius again. Really, Suetonius was the National Enquirer of Historians, it's hard to believe a word he says.
