The Last Kingdom

Post your views about what's on the telly-box (not about transvestites, unless it is a programme about transvestism, and even that is borderline unless there are also ladyboys).

Ok-ish, first episode was always going to be scene-setting and rather rushed.

The battle looked good, if a little smokey and dark. As always with shieldwall warfare I keep wondering why the attacking line doesn't slowly expand out to overlap the sides.

Square shields (has anyone mentioned that yet?) and references to "England". Slightly more historical than Game of Thrones but much less fun.

My wife made the very obvious observation, "why don't they just go around the side?". Frankly, I haven't got a clue.

I am sure such things are very hard in the heat of battle, even if they seem to be blindingly obvious to us.

I expect our hero will be taking his shirt off a lot in future episodes.

I'd assume that if you're all rushing around the sides then the other army would have an easy job cutting you down piecemeal while they stay safe and secure supporting each other in a shield wall.

I'm sure some reenactors will.be along in a while to educate us all.

I forgot about it until today, so watched it on iPlayer. I enjoyed ep2 a little more than the first one. Uhtred is started to grow on me after initial reservations (as I pictured something different in my head when reading the books) and the story is rattling along at a good rate.

Finally got around to watching the first two episodes. Eh, it's fair to middling telly. Not terrible, but certainly not really good.

It's been an ok show, I guess. The buildup and the trailers made it seem as if it would be much more epic than it's been, up to this point.
