Not really naked but not wearing briefs either.

thank you!

why are the sideburns freaking me out?

It's reminding you of your 70's porn collection?
Just needs a big moustache and a medallion for the full effect.

Personally, I think it's a tad dangerous to have your willy swinging about when you're waving a sword around...

Or like a prisonner with his hands attached behind his back, which is what he is.

Ofcourse they can't. 28m sculptors are all hacks technically... none of them can do nudes properly and all of them use clothing, elongated limbs , etc to hide the fact they cant get basic anatomy right. This industry is a shambles, no wonder companies go bust all the time...

To be completely fair you very rarely see plausible, accurate nudes in sculpture. Michelangelo's ?Bacchus? was one but then he went off on a tangent, presumably for reasons other than incompetence. His later nudes look like ?sacks filled with pumpkins? as one contemporary critic put it.

I have noticed there are many more people who can do good work of this sort as the size increases. I expect part of the reason is a realistic nude requires very fine differentiations and relations and in very small sizes it?s just too much work.

As to figure sculptors being hacks, my understanding is that is someone who works solely for money rather than more esoteric or aesthetic rewards and as any miniature sculptor could tell you, whatever they are doing this for, it?s not money.

All miniatures sculptors I know of are autodidacts and so of course they are a mixed bag. A common problem is, far from money, they are doing this because it makes them feel good, it?s part of their sense of themselves and so they sometimes aren?t as self-critical as an autodidact needs to be much less being able to assess criticism from others rationally.

The closest analogy would be fan artists a few of whom are excellent, some are very good but only in a narrow range and a lot a not very controlled but they enjoy what they do and some people like it so where?s the harm?

Well this is fantasy. In real life in a threatening situation the genitals contract as when in cold water. Of course that could be the case here...

There was an experiment some years ago, they used university students so that might explain some of it. Subjects were given a questionnaire to fill out by an attractive member of the opposite sex. It asked them what they had noticed about the person who gave them the questionnaire and where specifically they had looked on first encountering him/her. Unbeknownst to them where exactly they were looking was being recorded by bouncing infrared light off their eyes.

The men were pretty honest, face, chest, legs, butt. The women tended to say things like eyes, hair even though the camera recorded them shooting glances at the crotch when they felt unobserved. Further experiment deduced however this was not, or not entirely for prurient reasons. Turns out apes do it as well because it's a very good way to determine a male's intentions. If things are tightened up he's not looking for romance.
Sometimes I wonder why I don't wonder why I bother.

I mostly agree with this. However, a lot of people who do this professionnally aren't up to the task whatever the reasons. It's unconceivable this would occur in most other industries.

Amateur sculptors shouldn't be putting out stuff for sale. It blemishes the hobby in se and it's ridiculous.

YOu have your facts mixed up. Cellini commented that Bandinelli (Ercole e Caco) was producing work looking like a sack of *melons, not Michelangelo, his great rival.
