That's Too Big To Be A Mouse

I was in TK Max buying some socks and I decided to have a look in the 'boys toys' section as well.
And I found a Death Star!
Well, it was an ice cooler Death Star. It was only five quid.
Here it is, next to my mouse for a bit of scale...

It's in two halves and is made from rubber. That's not so bad, though it is flexible. Fortunately we have a can of expanding foam in the shed so I'm going to fill it with that to make it solid without adding much weight.
For a fiver it's worth a punt as a bit of scenery in the background for a space game or two. Give it a paint job and it should do the trick - not too big and not too small.

Nice find. I bought a Death Star ice mold which is great in theory but when you get it out most of the detail can't be seen and disappears anyway once you put it in a drink....

Hope you're going to fix that exhaust port problem.

What kind of glass do you need for ice spheres so big?

Right, I've filled it with expanding foam:

When I cut the two halves open this morning I could see that some of the foam inside was still wet. So I'll leave it a couple of days in case it still expands and then I'll level it off and stick the two halves together.

The Empire's dreaded new weapon - the Foam Star - will be ready for action soon!

Maybe they should take a tip from Humph and fill it with foam?

Right, all done!
Not the most sophisticated paint job but that's because it wasn't the most sophisticated thing. Sprayed a light grey, given a dark brown wash, then drybrushed.
All in it's cost me no more than a fiver! Can't argue with that. A Death Star is the most iconic piece of Star Wars terrain and it's now going to feature in every bloody game I have!
Here it is in all it's glory...

Image

And here we see a squadron of rebel fighters probing this strange new space station to see what it's defences are...

Image

And now they're legging it, and getting bounced by a patrol of Imperial fighters...
