Well here's an opportunity not to be missed, (or a chance to throw away your principles?)... it all depends on how you look at things (credit to reds8n on Dakka how posted it over there)

This week I sent out the first assignment packs for the new Trainee Citadel Miniature Designer Selection Program. This is a new and exciting development in the world of Citadel Miniatures!

The Trainee Citadel Miniature Designer Selection Program is something new, we are hoping to find the Citadel Miniature designers of the future, and it provides a means for prospective Citadel designers to channel their development and passion for Citadel Miniatures. The program involves completing training assignments in return for feedback and support on your work. This journey could be a long one, it could take years.... or it could take less.....

If you want to be part of this and you think that you've got what it takes, ask yourself these questions.......

Do you aspire to join the biggest and best team designing and sculpting the best fantasy miniatures on the planet?
Have you got the passion to constantly seek ways to improve in order to make each of your miniatures better than the last?
Could you see yourself making a career at Games Workshop, the desire to dedicate yourself to constantly improving skills and knowledge, putting your creative aspirations in the service of the miniatures?
Then go to the jobs page on the Games Workshop website and click on the Trainee Citadel Miniature Designer link. If your letter conveys drive and passion, you might be invited to an interview. After that interview, you might get an invitation to join the program.....

It has the potential to be a great thing... but I wonder what happens when you create something that you don't want to share and GW want it? I guess if it's on 'company time' they'll take it.

I also suspect that they will be very picky about direction too.

Nothing I'd need to worry about because I'm nowhere near the standard they demand :D
Have a look at my blog, it's really full of things: http://insosworld.blogspot.com/

It doesn't say anything about what they are offering, just that they are looking for really motivated sculptors that would like to have a job title that starts with 'trainee'.
On the positive side, you could pick up some new sculpting skills though.

I don't know whether the contract is still the same, but the default GW employment contract from about 10 years back stated that the employee agreed to give full rights to any artistic creations made during the period of their employment, and for the 6 months following cessation of employment... no idea if that would stand up in court, though!

My contract (I work in IT) has had similar clauses regarding code, IP and 'Inventions' - when I had it checked the "after employment" would not stand up in the EU court under unfair restrictions but I was told it would be a battle to defend as case law was not seen at the time. I know similar restrains over paying back money for training has been defended by the pour souls being made to pay when they leave. Not I am not a lawyer and this advice is worth as much as you paid for it :-)

If you are not happy - do not sign...
