Crazy that people would ever go near anything Defiance games did after the well publicised history of Reidy.

I've backed quite a few KS projects and, touch wood, they have all delivered. That said I generally fo a bit of research into the project creator before hand. Problems crop up and can delay projects bit people like Reidy are just crooks (noone is just that inept surely).

Turns out he's totally screwed them over now. The offer to print your own was only for backers who had complained to the AG office. Since someone posted it on the KS comments, they've even withdrawn that and are now offering nothing at all and have backed out of any mediation. Class act!

Hello,

I am writing to follow up with you on the consumer complaint you filed with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office (AGO) and provide you with a status update on the mediation effort with Defiance Games, LLC and the AGO.

I regret to inform you that our attempts to mediate with this business did not yield a mutually acceptable resolution and we have concluded our efforts.

During the mediation process, our office was advised by their attorney that Defiance Games, LLC was in financial default and intended to file for bankruptcy under Chapter 7 of the US Bankruptcy code and that the remaining principle of the business had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy personally. Through discussions between their attorney and an AGO mediator, Defiance Games, LLC made a confidential offer to sponsors of their Kickstarter.com fundraising campaign to make the completed electronic ‘shape’ files available to the aggrieved kickstarter.com sponsors so that they could, at their own cost, complete production of the promised ‘backer rewards’ through a third-party of their choice.

This confidential offer was communicated for consideration to those sponsors who submitted a formal complaint to the AGO. The confidential offer was subsequently posted and reposted without authorization on public online forums. Given the confidential nature of the offer, its unauthorized dissemination on public online forums caused Defiance Games, LLC to decide to withdraw from further participation with our voluntary mediation program.

Your complaint will remain a public record in the AGO’s Public Inquiry & Assistance Center. The complaint and your information help us identify patterns of unfair and deceptive practices. If the matter detailed in your complaint develops into a case that our Office decides to investigate further, then we may be back in touch with you to seek additional details.

If you are interested in continuing your effort to resolve your complaint, then you may want to consider consulting with a private attorney or filing a claim in Small Claims Court. If you need assistance with locating a private attorney, then you may contact the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service at (617) 654-0400. Your local county bar association may also be a helpful resource in finding an attorney.

The Small Claims Court Advisory Service is a resource available to consumers seeking information about the civil small claims process in Massachusetts. They may be reached at (617) 497-5690 or online at http://www.masmallclaims.org. Other informational resources from the Massachusetts Trial Court Department can be found online by searching the http://www.mass.gov website for “Small Claims Information.”

Sincerely,

Nicholas Synowiec, Deputy Director

Now they don't even get the chance of some worthless unworkable files by way of compensation. I guess he's pissed off with them for not letting him wriggle out of having to declare personal bankruptcy.

What a shame! Our great business leaders are being attacked by Fat Cat bureaucrats and ungrateful customers! Imagine! All The Honourable Tony Reidy wanted was a whole bunch of cash and not having to send out any product, and now he has to file for bankruptcy. Poor, poor Tony the Great. We should all rally round him and give donations to get Rip-Off Games up and running, and employ Reidy as the shadow manager. His customer service is 100% totally intangible, plus he gathers extra ordinary amount of money for vapor-ware that he wisely does not disseminate. Brilliant business acumen and a real Hero of Our Age.

I feel bad for the people that got screwed by backing this, even though they should have done some research into the company and chose poorly.
I am, on a personal level, glad to see Tony declare personal bankruptcy. Jail would have been better, but at least there is some justice for all the people that he ripped off.

There's no fucking justice for anybody when someone declares bankruptcy!

No-one gets anything from it, and Reidy gets out of all of his obligations to pay back the dosh he's conned out of the silly sods who backed the KS.

Bankruptcy is a very good way of getting out of things...stay out of sight for a few years and you can come back and do the same again.

If bankruptcy came with a good session in the stocks it would be an improvement.

At least by filing for bankruptcy The Bobble-Headed Jesus finally has to admit to people that he's a fuck-up. It's cold comfort to the backers, and that's sad, but some of them seem determined to be dim. "Do Kickstarter comments count as a public forum?"
