In the old days it was ok just to have baddies and goodies and wackey costumes which is reflected in the old TV series.

I wrote out a long piece of shit about how this was a gross simplification.
And then thought better of it.
Don't make me post my potted history of Bat comics!!!!!!!

Ledger was a drug addict who threw his life away but he could act and he nailed the role and has been recognized for that.

I wish he'd been able to go on to do more.

It's a shame so many of this generations greats waste their lives on drugs. :(

Both super silly clown and elemental of chaos Jokers are not my cup of tea, but then I prefer the early comic book/pulp type heroes and villains before things got so over the top.
And when shooting the bad guy was always an option.

It's ok, kiddies. They're just Professor Hugo Stranges's man monsters they're not...oh wait! Shit! Did he say they were human beings? No! Bats no! It's 1940! You have a ward to set a good example to!

Put the gun away!

You never know, his role as the joker might have been the pinnacle of his career even if he hadn't died. He went out on high (no pun intended) and avoided all the mediocrity and shit that actors can all too easily find themselves appearing in.

Yeah maybe, but at least he'd be alive.
And maybe we'd get to see him reprise the role.

Mark Hamil's Joker is by far the best interpretation, Ledger portrayed pure unadulterated sociopathy, Jack Nicholson nailed down Jack Napier however his Joker? More a descent into madness edging towards Ceasar Romero's Joker (which is probably the best onscreen Joker for its period) IMHO
