Anyone seen the Tolkien movie? Is it worth a watch?
I'm pretty cynical, so considering how he's been raised higher and higher in peoples estimations as an author throughout my lifetime to near godhood, I'm concerned the movie might be cringe-worthy, romanticised, hero-worship drivel. I'm sort of hoping they include him running around oxford in a sheepskin yelling at people in old Norse but it looks from the adds they are casting him as a character like Frodo in the Fellowship (they keep saying it's about fellowship, do they mean the Inklings? his fellow soldiers in the war? or is this just a crude attempt to tie his life directly in to the story in his books?).

So how is it?

I didn’t see it. Looks like no one else here has, either. :wry:

It came in for some pretty heavy criticism, for various reasons. One of the blurbs called his group "outcasts", which has never been my impression.

I'll pick it up at Wallyworld sometime.

Saw it yesterday. Meh. It’s another British Edwardian class drama. Think of it as a male version of Vera Britain and you won’t be far off.
