I was thinking about getting it when it came out but presumed it would be Pike & Shot with different clothes. By the sound of it that isn't entirely true.
Tempted if the engine has been tweaked, but if it's tweaked so heavily against the human player - maybe not.
Apart from being driven suicidal by defeat would you recommend it?
Well the learning curve's a damn sight steeper than P&S.
When playing against the Koreans you're going to get shot to death. Every one of their troop types carries a missile weapon. Like those Asian horse archers in P&S you can't catch the bloody missile skirmishers either, so off you go charging after them in an attempt not to become a pincushion only to get hit in the flank by something heavier...
When playing against other Japanese armies their troops always seem to cause more casualties than yours. Given that they have the same weapons and armour, and are nominally the same class, that's a bit odd. I've noticed this in P&S too, but the weighting seems way OTT here.
The original map is shite. It's white, glare city. The designer claims that he was influenced by those ink on paper drawings of Japanese battles. An update fixes it, but you have to find it in options.
Make yer own mind up
