Back to 'Ice' for a sec - the more I think about it the more over complicated my idea feels - possible, but a lot of faff creating the right shaped outer mould to pour the resin into and around the figure.

How about clear acrylic 'Crackle' or 'Krakelee' medium?

It dries clear with a 'cracked porcelain' type effect. Not used it myself but my wife and daughter used to use it for weird art/craft projects. I've 'borrowed' some and am working on a test on a white undercoated blank base at the moment - if that works I'll try it on a gash figure (god knows I've got enough of them  ) and maybe post the result if not too naff.

Thanks. I've never heard of the stuff before, I'll be interested in the results of your experiment.

Slight bog up on my part - crap pic to follow.
The stuff I used apparently is a two part process - I haven't got stage 2.
So I may go and get some crackle glaze which apparently works on its own - in the meantime I have an ECW figure encased in what looks like - let's be kind - spit.

Oops.
Did it harden?
Maybe you could claim it's a battlefield haunting ghost and call it ectoplasm?

It is a bit 'ectomplasmy' isn't it?

Looks as if he's been in a Ghostbuster's film.

That's very, er...Interesting.
A fearsome apparition that will no doubt have the roundheads trembling in their Lobsterpots.

A for effort.

I don't know, it was worth a try. Do you think it would have worked if you'd been able to complete the second stage?

Dunno - You'll be pleased to know the goop washed off with warm water and detergent (and a gentle soft brushing). Despite being dry to the touch and apparently quite hard.
Looking at the one shot crackle finish next.
Maybe a more 'appropriate' figure next time? He was the first one that came to hand - I sold most of my 28mm ECW years ago - he's been hanging around lost for years - there's a distinct smug look on his face now.
Can't see him being a frosty superhero however effective the glaze/resin/ cling film.

I'm glad you managed to salvage the figure. :)
