Charley's War Graphic Novel

Postby McGobbo Fett » Tue Mar 22, 2005 1:25 pm

Well last week the graphic novel i've been waiting for since I was 8 years old came through my door, what can I say about Charley's War that I didn't say as a young lad, its as fresh now as it was when it was first out still a damn fine read and a great ANti-war advertisement. I know the Colonel is a big fan of Battle like I was so if he hasn't got hold of this I'd recommend that he does ;)

Charleys War was always my favourite strip in Battle. Didn't they release the whole thing as a series of Titan anthologies back in the early 90s?

They probably did although they were my "lost years" so I missed the collections at that point.

The 'whole thing' was a weekly strip lasting more than 5 years. The 2 Titan anthologies that were recently reprinted as one barely scratched the surface!

A second volume is due in November I understand, as I commented on the Battle page recently...

I have lots of the orignal comics at me digs. One of my faves was this story as was Jonny Red when he went to russia.
Frothers are the same sort of gormless cock polishers as TMP'ers, the only difference is they are more left wing as opposed to fascist cunts.

Darkies Mob was the bestest. Charleys War was great, even if I didn't always agree with it (same for that other working class legend- Bill Savage). Fantastic art and one if not the best anti-war work of literature I've ever read. Though it all went tits up when Pat Mills left after they refused his budget. The WW2 stuff was just, well, generic.

Pretty sure I have all the leningrad and stalingrad ones with most of the lead up story.

Havn't read em in years though.

If I dont have em my uncles would. They bought every comic in the newsagents every week.
