Good to see some mainstream media not pulling their punches and actually trying to point out the some of the obvious concerns with this case:

Most of the times the TV coverage seem firmly on the fence, I can't help feeling that the mainstream media are too busy enjoying seeing the poster-boy for the upstart new news platforms that they feel threatened by come a cropper to point out that this is a major threat to press freedom.
I suspect most mainstream media outlets and journalists will wait until Assange is safely locked up and the key thrown away before suddenly noticing that this sort of thing is actually quite scary and start screaming in the headlines that something has to be done about it.

Er, no, we wouldn’t. There are cases before the courts in Australia on exactly this, including a fairly high profile one, as we speak. It all goes to the notion of consent, which is the basis of any prosecution for rape/ sexual assault. The phenomena has even spawned a name of its own ‘stealthing’.

Julian hails from Oz and at one time, lived in Melbourne. In Victoria he may well have faced a charge of sexual assault. It’s a developing area of the criminal law in a number of jurisdictions.
