true that. as I say, 30 years of fairly rectitudilinear men washed away the memory of about 150 years of seriously dodgy men holding the Office of president of the US, so Nixon's impeachment was more of a shock. Really, he was more a reversion to the mean than a blip.

But if you are going to say to people like Donald 'don't you dare lose office now, or we will destroy you' then Julius Caesar will have been merely a footnote in History when ex-president Hiram T Mandiblaster or whoever crosses the Potomac with his army beholden only to him and starts proscribing.

Speaking as a citizen of a so-called banana republic, the thing the U.S. could do that would make them most like Brazil is allow Presidential privilege to continue for an entire lifetime, even in the face of heaps of evidence of wrong-doing.

It’s well known that no politician ever goes to jail in Brazil for very long. Want to act like a democracy? Hold ex-presidents to the same standards as any other citizen.

There’s a reason all our corrupt politicians end up in Miami, you know, and it’s not because the U.S. has a fair, open, and just legal system.
