I’ve had several surgeries over the last decade.

I don’t recall going to gaming forums, posting about them nor saying goodbye in case I didn’t wake up again.

It’s the kind of weird, personal drama you see on TMP and nowhere else. Although I suppose TMP’s diaspora is bringing it along. People on other sites may mention surgeries that are upcoming as part of a post (“not going to be able to paint or play until I heal up”) but it isn’t normal to create a thread for “I’m going to die” to fish for responses wishing you well.

I think we all have, unfortunately, known some people online that have passed away or been through some very difficult medical issues. Getting your teeth cleaned or meniscus surgery on your knee or whatever is not cause for “goodbye my droogs.”

Personally, I miss Allen Curtis, although I didn’t know him outside of TMP. I hope his daughter is doing well. I still enjoy his Punic Wars supplement and often think fondly on our conversations.

I also think of the guy who went by BADDAWG because he was such a character and and incredibly enthusiastic hobbiest.

Yeah, that's the interesting part. Typically, dominant armed forces don't see a need to change, and keep fighting the last war. The US Navy basically hasn't had any combat experience at strategic and operational level for 75 years.

I'm sure they would have wargamed various scenarios vs PRC assets, but presumably the Chinese have also been working out a strategy. Rumours of hyper-kinetic missiles etc. And I certainly wouldn't want to be the task force commander ordered to conduct offensive carrier operations in range of land-based strike unless I was certain of complete dominance.

The standing criticism of the F35 and F22 has always been the limited offensive load-out and dependence on other air assets. Shoot down or negate the controller aircraft, overwhelm the technically superior US aircraft with massed missile attacks, and interdict resupply. If you're prepared to lose 6 of your own aircraft to take out one F35, that might be a good trade-off, especially if you can recover pilots in your own operational space.

It wouldn't take too many aircraft/pilot losses to start seriously degrading a US Navy task force offensive/defensive capability.

Reading comprehension fail Bill. What a dick. I was pointing out there's a real risk of the US underestimating PRC capabilities, and I wouldn't want to be the US Task Force Commander. There has been constant criticism of the air strategy of US. Which bit of the above is 'yahoo .. lets kill all the foreigners..' ?
