Thanks for the update.
You've got to wonder what's going on behind the scenes that keeps pushing it back.

I was really trying to time some War of the Worlds themed games to play with my family to coincide with when we could see this, but it's taken so long I've played the games with other themes!

Oh well, hopefully it'll still be a good watch.

Supposed to be on in the UK in 'Autumn 2019' and definitely not Christmas - but as its a three episode series and there's about three weeks of 'Autumn' left, they might have to get their finger out.

Has this been on yet? I thought they might run it on Halloween...

Maybe next year.

Maybe you're right, but I had hoped for something a bit less generic looking, it took long enough and being a period piece this time I thought there was a lot of scope to have a different tone than the average Sci-Fi alien invasion show, but that seems pretty generic. Of course that could just be down to the ad.
It doesn't help the tripod seems so generic, ominously looming up and lumbering about more like some giant crab kaiju than a spinning milking stool alien death machine IMHO.

I dunno, looks OK to me.

After all, it's a TV miniseries -- how big could the budget have been?

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the look of that. Maybe my expectations were just too high after having had to wait so long, but that looks decidedly average to me. :?

I hope they don't go full on cogs, rivets and steam as well. From his criticism of some illustrations of his story Wells clearly didn't see his Martian Tripods that way.
I'd be more worried if it wasn't the BBC TBH, I'm not sure the Steampunk aesthetic ever really broke away from general idea of Sci-fi anachronism to become it's own cliché thing in the minds of the BBC, the influence of Dr. Who and it's everything-and-the-kitchen-sink attitude to genre conventions I think. But British posters would know better than I there.

More likely IMHO the Edwardian main characters will act more like 21 century people with none of the attitudes of the time, which aids identification for non-fans but hurts the whole allegory-of-empire thing Wells was going for and makes recapturing the disquieting, probably verging on horror emotional impact the story probably had on readers of the time very unlikely IMHO.

Quite frankly I'm worried they probably don't aspire to anything more than creating a nostalgic, nationalistic celebration of Britishness fit for a flag waving Brexit era audience. :(
Which would be particularly irksome as the era produced tons of nationalistic fiction ripe for that treatment but this story is certainly not one of them.
But perhaps I judge too harshly based on the few articles I've read, only time will tell.

And at the very least we'll get aliens and explosions. :D

Eh, it may well be good, I'll give it a try. I've been craving some late Victorian era sci fi these days, I hope they won't go full steampunk as this trend can end up being ridiculous sometimes.

And it's good to know that George and Amy will be able to take time off from running from the alien death machines and the end of the world to defy society's prejudices.

The show was announced in spring 2017 and production began in April 2018, with filming taking place in Liverpool.

An exact air date has not been confirmed but it’s expected to arrive on our screens later in 2018.
